Improve Your Smile Today

While cosmetic dentistry is primarily concerned with improving your appearance, it can do much more than that. Invisalign, for example, can help move crowded teeth further apart, making it easier to brush and floss between each tooth and minimizing your risk of cavities. At Robinson Township Smiles, we make it our goal to improve both your smile and your oral health with our cosmetic dentistry treatments. Take a look at some of our past results now! Contact Robinson Township Smiles online or call (412) 859-3833 to schedule a dental appointment today! Or visit our office at 66 Forest Grove Rd., Coraopolis, PA 15108, and see what Dr. Rupert can do for your smile!

Root canal therapy is somewhat similar to a filling, except it treats both the exterior enamel and the interior pulp.

The pulp is the fleshy, nerve-filled substance that is located inside the exterior enamel and dentin of your tooth. If the enamel and dentin both become worn away due to tooth decay, or crack because of an impact injury, the pulp can become exposed.

When this happens, the pulp becomes infected by the bacteria that live in the mouth. In turn, this causes pain, inflammation, and further tooth decay.

Root canal therapy is used to treat this issue. A small opening is made in the tooth, and Dr. Rupert extracts all of the infected pulp from the interior of the tooth. Then, the inside of the tooth is thoroughly cleaned with disinfectants and antibiotics.

After this, the pulp is replaced with a rubbery material called “gutta percha”. This provides a strong structural base for the remaining tooth structure. After this, a filling or temporary crown is used to seal your tooth, and a follow-up appointment is made for a permanent dental crown.

Root canals are usually required if your tooth is seriously decayed and infected, but also can be required if it becomes cracked due to a slip and fall, car accident, or a hard hit in contact sports. Here are some signs that you may need a root canal:

  • Increased sensitivity
  • Grayish color or other discoloration
  • Toothache and radiating jaw pain
  • Swelling of the cheek and face
  • Difficulty chewing/biting without pain
  • Inflammation around gumline
  • Fever

If you recognize these signs and symptoms, call your local dentist in Robinson Township to set up a consultation, and the friendly team will get you out of pain.

Don’t suffer in pain from a damaged, infected, or decayed tooth. Here are just a few reasons to consider root canal therapy:

Pain relief – Root canals remove the source of infection, providing you relief from toothache, fever, and swelling.

Affordable treatment – A root canal is much cheaper than having your tooth pulled and replaced with a partial denture, bridge, or a dental implant.

Save your original tooth – It’s always best to preserve the original tooth structure whenever possible, and avoid tooth extractions.
