Crowns & Bridges in Robinson Township
If you have missing or damaged teeth, your routine oral activities may be difficult, or even impossible. It may be embarrassing to speak, smile, or laugh, and hard to chew and eat effectively.
But you don’t have to live with this problem forever. With dental crowns and bridges from Dr. Ryan Rupert at Robinson Township Smiles, you can restore your mouth to health, and resume your normal life.
What Are Dental Crowns?
A dental crown is an advanced prosthesis designed to fit over your existing tooth and restore its natural shape and appearance. It also protects the underlying tooth structure from additional damage or decay. Dental crowns are usually made out of gold or more often ceramic tooth-colored materials.
To place a crown, your Robinson Township dentist will trim the underlying tooth surface, creating a smooth foundation for the placement of your crown. Then, images and molds will be taken of your mouth. These scans will be sent to a lab where a crown will be produced that perfectly matches your existing tooth.
Once your crown is ready, you will come back for another appointment, where the crown is measured and placed. If the fit of the crown is correct, Dr. Rupert will bond it in place permanently with advanced dental adhesive, completing the restoration.
What Are Dental Bridges?
A dental bridge is a method of restoring missing teeth by using two separate crowns and an artificial tooth. The two crowns sit on your healthy teeth, and the artificial tooth literally “bridges” the gap of your missing tooth.
To attach a dental bridge, Dr. Rupert will begin by trimming both of your healthy “abutment” teeth to prepare them for crown attachment. Then, after images of your mouth are taken, a dental bridge will be manufactured that is tailored perfectly for your mouth.
The application process is very similar to that of a dental crown. Dr. Rupert will check and adjust the fit and sizing of the dental bridge. Once it is perfect, he will bond both of the crowns to their abutment teeth with dental adhesive. After this adhesive has set, the dental bridge is complete.
The Benefits Of Bridges And Crowns
Bridges and crowns both have a number of benefits:
Protects your tooth – Both bridges and crowns cover up your underlying tooth structure, and prevent it from being damaged. This can also help treat issues like tooth sensitivity.
Restores your smile – Bridges and crowns can treat missing teeth and damaged or misshapen teeth, respectively. This restores your smile, and allows you to eat, drink, and chew effectively!
Non-invasive – Crowns and bridges only require the removal of surface enamel. There is no cutting or invasive surgery, and most procedures are completed under minimal local anesthetic.
Long-lasting – Crowns can last in excess of 10-20 years, depending on the material that they are made of, and dental bridges can last from 5-15 years.
