Are you expecting a baby? Congratulations! All of us here at Robinson Township Smiles are so excited for you!

Did you know that now is a great time to schedule an appointment with your dentist in Coraopolis, Dr. Ryan Rupert? You’ve probably been focused on other medical appointments, and we completely understand. But certain dental conditions can be common during pregnancy, and we want to make sure you’re doing everything possible to give your little one the very best start.

1. Start by scheduling a check-up.

Call our office and let us know that you are pregnant. We’ll schedule a time for you to meet with Dr. Rupert and plan your care during your pregnancy.

2. Cleanings are safe during pregnancy.

Cleanings, examinations, and most other standard treatments are safe during pregnancy. We will avoid taking x-rays, however, unless they are absolutely necessary.

3. Pay attention to your gums.

Pregnancy gingivitis is common. This inflammation of the gums can cause swelling, tenderness, and sometimes bleeding. Without treatment, the condition may progress into periodontitis, which has been linked to low birth weight in babies and early labor.

4. Decay can be more common.

Whether you’re craving carbohydrate-rich food or struggling with morning sickness, pregnancy can be tough on your teeth. You may also find it difficult to brush and floss if you feel nauseated or your gag reflex becomes more active. Do your best to keep up your routine. If you are having a hard time, please let us know so we can recommend techniques and products.

5. We are happy to work with your primary care provider.

We know that pregnancy is an important part of your life and having the support you need is crucial. If your pregnancy is high-risk or you are experiencing any of the common dental complications that can occur during pregnancy, we will happily coordinate care with your OB team to make sure you are getting the best possible treatment.

Are You Pregnant or Planning to Become Pregnant?

Even if you are only considering pregnancy at this point, call our office and schedule a consultation with Dr. Rupert. We can plan care to make sure you are in the best possible oral health before you begin your pregnancy.
