What Counts As A Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency is any oral health issue that you cannot treat yourself, and that is causing you significant pain. Common dental emergencies include:

- A loose or damaged filling
- Severe toothache
- Knocked out teeth
- Broken or chipped teeth
- Damage to the soft tissue of the gums and mouth
When Should I See An Emergency Dentist?
Every emergency is different, but the goal is to get you out of pain and on your way to recovery as soon as possible. Call Robinson Township Smiles to schedule an appointment with Ryan J Rupert, DMD. We’ll do our best to accommodate your emergency and help you get the care you need.
What Can I Do While Waiting For My Appointment?
There are things you can do at home before your appointment to reduce the pain of your dental injury.
Over-the-counter pain medication such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help reduce pain and inflammation.
Ice packs can also be applied to the exterior of the mouth in order to reduce swelling and provide topical pain relief.
Do not use aspirin, especially if bleeding is present. It’s a blood thinner and can prevent clotting.
Clean gauze or cotton balls with gentle pressure can help stop bleeding. Depending on the severity of your injury, bleeding should stop within a couple of hours. If you experience excessive bleeding that persists for several hours, you should visit an urgent care center or emergency room.
